Unlock longer gaming sessions with your ROG Ally X by replacing its battery and power-button flex cable. Regardless of your gaming level, knowing how to safely swap in an 80 Wh OEM pack ensures smooth performance and optimal charge readings—no service center required!
Your Ally X depends on a healthy battery and responsive power-button circuit. Over time, battery degradation limits playtime, and the power-button/LED flex cable often fails after ~1,000 presses—leading to unresponsive power buttons or flickering LEDs. Swapping both parts early is smart maintenance that prevents downtime and costly repairs.
At A‑Accessories, we stock genuine ROG parts including 80 Wh OEM batteries, reliable power‑button flex cables, high-quality adhesive strips, and precision tool kits. With over 20 years of experience, our team empowers you to stay in the game.
Step-by-Step: Safe Battery Removal
1. Prepare Your Workspace
- Clear, non-static surface save for screws and parts.
- Use a magnetic pad (included in our Precision Tool Kit) to avoid losing small screws.
- Power off the device and disconnect any charger or accessories.
2. Open the Ally X
Remove five #0 screws, then loosen the captive sixth screw which is the the bottom middle screw. Next, slide a pick to release clips all around the device, then gently lift the cover. Use a plastic pry tool to avoid scratching internal parts.
Note: Do not yank the back shell off once the screws are removed, it is still attached via ribbon cable!
3. Remove the Old Battery
Gently lift the flex cable from its connector and detach the battery connector from the motherboard. (At this moment, you can also remove the SSD if you would like to upgrade this component as well; it is attached by only 1 screw. We offer official 4TB options.)
The battery is held only by four #00 screws - remove them and carefully pry up the old battery. If you are unsure or need more detailed instructions, check out this battery removal guide on our help page!
4. Install the 80 Wh OEM Pack
Place your new
80 Wh OEM battery
into the device, plug in the connector, and gently press into place. Remember
to
reroute the wide ribbon that crosses the battery before tightening the
four screws so it isn’t pinched.
Your new battery pack from Asus Accessories is identical to the original—guaranteed
compatibility and safety. No firmware update needed.
Power‑Button & LED Flex Cable: Replace for Long-Term Reliability
Why Replace?
After ~1,000 presses, the flex cable can wear out: buttons may feel mushy, LEDs flicker or go dark. Replacing it ensures consistent power cycling and visual feedback during gaming sessions.
Installation:
- Unplug the old cable from the motherboard (adjacent to the battery connector).
- Carefully lift and remove the cable from its channel.
- Install the new power‑button/LED flex cable, routing it exactly like the old one.
- Reconnect and test the button and LED function before sealing the case.
Calibrate your new battery
- Charge to 100% uninterrupted.
- Let the device sit for at least 2 hours, then leave plugged in for another hour to top off.
- Unplug and run a full discharge down to ~5%—play a game or stream video for this.
- Recharge to 100% again. Your operating system and firmware will now show accurate battery health and capacity.
Calibrating ensures the battery meter matches reality, so low-battery shutoff won't surprise you mid-match.
